Sustainable Set Craft

Our approach

Stop-motion is a physical art, and physical art uses materials. We try to use them thoughtfully. We do not hold any environmental certification and we do not claim to be a zero-waste studio. What we can share are the habits we follow on every project and the ones we are working to improve.

Materials

• Reused timber. Set frames and bases are built from offcuts and reclaimed timber wherever the build allows.
• Reclaimable clay. Oil-based modeling clay can be softened and reused many times, so scraps go back into the tub rather than the bin.
• Paper offcuts. Leftover paper and card are sorted by color and weight for future props and texture work.
• Low-impact finishes. We prefer water-based paints and adhesives where they meet the needs of the shot.

Light and power

Our stages use LED lighting, including the tiny practical lights hidden inside sets. LEDs run cool, which also helps clay puppets keep their shape under the lights for long shooting days.

After the shoot

Sets and puppets do not have to be thrown away when a film is finished. Depending on the contract, we crate and ship hero puppets to clients, archive them in our studio for sequels or seasonal versions, strip sets back to reusable parts, or offer pieces to schools and community workshops. We plan this at the start, so builds are designed to come apart cleanly.

Getting there

Most reviews happen remotely through stills and clips, which saves travel for clients. When people do visit, we plan visits around key shooting days so one trip covers more.

Talking to clients about it

If sustainability matters to your brief, tell us early. We can suggest material choices, reuse plans and archive options during concept and boards, when they cost least and make the biggest difference, rather than at the end.
