Why sound matters so much

Small worlds need big care in sound. A puppet's footstep, the rustle of a paper leaf or the tick of a brass gear tells the audience what things are made of and how much they weigh. In films with little or no dialogue, sound often carries most of the emotion.

Handmade Foley

We record most effects by hand in our sound room. Paper is rustled close to a microphone for leaves, a soft brush on felt becomes footsteps, folded tissue crackles for lanterns, watch movements tick for clockwork. Recording the real materials used on set keeps picture and sound in harmony.

Scores and acoustic instrumentation

Our scores tend to be small and acoustic: music box, celesta, kalimba, piccolo, cello, plucked strings and gentle percussion. We compose to the animatic, so the music and the animation can grow together, and we can work with your own composer or licensed music if you prefer.

Voice casting

When a film needs voices, we cast actors who suit the scale and spirit of the characters and can direct sessions in person or remotely. We also plan for multiple languages when a film will travel.

Mixes and delivery

• Stereo mixes for web and social
• Surround mixes for broadcast or cinema when required
• Sound-on and sound-off versions planned for social platforms
• Separated stems for future edits

Sound work typically runs in parallel with the final weeks of animation, with a dedicated mix of a few days at the end. Specific delivery specs are agreed in writing at the start of a project.

Working with your music

If your brand already has a sonic identity, a jingle or a licensed track, we will build the Foley and mix around it rather than compete with it. For music videos, the artist's track leads, and our job is to make the picture and the small sounds of the world sit comfortably alongside it.

Reviewing sound

We share sound in stages: a first Foley pass over the animatic, a draft score and a final mix. Each review comes with notes on what has changed, so feedback stays focused and the final mix comes together without surprises.
