Invisible work
Stop-motion and hybrid films need careful finishing. Rigs that held a puppet mid-jump, wires that powered a lantern and the occasional fingerprint on a set all have to disappear. Our finishing team removes them frame by frame, using clean plates shot on set to restore whatever was hidden behind.
Compositing
We combine practical plates with digital characters, hand-drawn 2D effects, sky replacements or simulated weather, and we blend them with grain, light wrap and subtle texture so nothing looks pasted on. Where a shot works better in camera, we keep it in camera.
Color grade
The grade is where a film's color script becomes final. We balance warmth and contrast, keep saturated colors rich without clipping, and preserve the gentle flicker and texture that make handcrafted animation feel alive.
Masters and versions
- High-resolution masters, including 4K where required
- Edit-friendly ProRes files
- Social cutdowns in 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1
- Subtitled and textless versions
- Archive of raw frames on request
Because cutdowns are planned at the boards stage, vertical and square versions are composed shots rather than crops.
Timing and handover
Finishing typically takes one to two weeks for a short commercial, longer for original shorts. At handover we provide a clear file list, delivery specs and an archive plan so future edits are easy. Exact formats and rights are confirmed in your contract.
Keeping the handmade feel
Good finishing for handcrafted animation is about restraint. We clean up what distracts, never what charms. A little grain, the slight shift of light between frames and the occasional visible texture in a puppet's skin are part of what makes stop-motion special, so we decide carefully what to keep. If a shot needs digital help, such as extra rain, spray or sparkle, we design that help to match the materials already on set.
What we need from you
Final delivery specifications from your broadcaster, platform or agency, any caption or legal text requirements, and a list of the versions you expect to need. With that information at the start, we can plan the finishing stage properly instead of rushing it at the end.
