About TinFilm US
An independent animation studio making handcrafted films one frame at a time.
Who we are
TinFilm US is an independent animation and micro-cinema studio working from Brooklyn, NY and Burbank, CA. We make stop-motion films, clay and papercraft worlds, miniature sets and stylized 3D animation that looks and feels like real materials. We make our own original shorts, and we make films for brands, musicians and storytellers who want something warm, tactile and joyful.
The name comes from the tin toys and tin cans that turn up on our workbenches: humble materials that become something magical when you add care, light and patience.
What we believe
We believe audiences can feel the difference between something simulated and something touched. That is why we start with physical materials wherever we can, and why our digital work is matched against real paper, felt, clay and wood.
We believe small stories can carry big feelings. Many of our films are about tiny characters doing quiet, brave things, and we think that is a good description of animation itself.
And we believe in being honest. You will not find invented awards, borrowed client logos or inflated numbers on this site.
How we work
Our process has four stages: storyboards and color scripts, character and set fabrication, frame-by-frame cinematography, and sound, color and master delivery. Each stage has clear check-ins, so clients always know what is happening and what we need from them. We keep teams small and close to the work, and we plan every project in writing before production begins.
About this launch edition
This is the first version of our website. The projects shown are illustrative case studies that describe the way we work, and the clients and artists named in them are fictional. As real projects are released, we will add them here with their real names and permissions.
If you would like to see private work, talk about a project or simply say hello, we would love to hear from you.
What we make
Brand commercials and social series, music videos, original short films, behind-the-scenes micro-docs and stills. Whatever the format, the same small team carries a project from first sketch to final master, so the care you see in the boards is still there in the last frame.
