Tucson police said the driver remained at the scene of the deadly collision Thursday night.

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Police Department has identified the two pedestrians who were killed in a crash that happened in midtown on Thursday night.
Colette Mukankaka, 71, and Donatille Nyiramugwera, 60, were identified as the victims of the crash.
According to TPD, Operations Division Midtown officers responded to the intersection of 29th Street and Rosemont Avenue after receiving a report of a crash involving two female pedestrians on March 19 at 6:20 p.m.
TPD said Mukankaka and Nyiramugwera were pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence from the roadway and witness statements revealed that the women were crossing 29th Street from north to south at Rosemont Avenue when they were hit by a 2008 Acura MDX. The vehicle was traveling westbound in the curb lane.
The pedestrians were in a marked crosswalk with an activated HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) beacon at the time of the fatal crash.
The Acura driver, a 65-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not impaired, TPD said. He has been charged with Causing Death by an Applicable Title 28 Moving Violation.
“Failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk is the primary contributing factor in this collision,” TPD said.
The investigation is ongoing.
