STAFFORD, Texas — A Stafford family is getting ready to honor the life of a 19-year-old who’s gone way too soon.
“She was perfect. That’s my little sister. She was my little mini me,” Tamika Gonzalez said.
Lakeisha Brown’s family members said she and three of her friends — 20-year-old Myunique Johnson, 31-year-old Breanna Brantley and 28-year-old Taylor White — were all killed in a crash last week.
“My heart doesn’t only go out to my daughter, it goes out to the other three families. This is just a tragedy,” Lakeisha’s mother, Earlean Patt, said.
The women were on a road trip last Wednesday when Texas Department of Public Safety officials said they were involved in a crash on US 87 about 10 miles south of Dalhart, Texas, which is in the Panhandle. According to the DPS report, the women were driving slowly due to a flat tire when the driver of an 18-wheeler failed to control his speed and crashed into the back of their car, killing all four of them.
“There were some beautiful young ladies with bright futures ahead of them. (Their lives were) Tragically cut short and the families need answers and justice,” family attorney Rodney Jones said.
DPS officials said charges against the truck driver are pending as the investigation into the crash continues.
“When I hear that, I have anger. All we want right now, and all the family wants right now, is justice,” Gonzalez said.
Family members and friends gathered for a balloon release honoring Lakeisha on Wednesday night.
