A horrifying accident caught on camera has left an entire community in shock after a 21-year-old woman was thrown from a bridge during a bungee jump — without ever being attached to the safety rope meant to save her life.

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas died Saturday after plunging approximately 130 feet from the infamous “Skeleton Bridge,” an abandoned railway bridge in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil.

Disturbing footage recorded moments before the jump appears to show the fatal mistake in plain sight.

As de Freitas stood on the edge preparing for the thrill of a lifetime, the rope that should have been secured to her harness can reportedly be seen lying in a tangled pile on the ground beneath the feet of the guides overseeing the jump.

Yet nobody noticed.

Or if they did, nobody spoke up.

Seconds later, the young woman was pushed from the bridge.

Video clips circulating online show her falling toward the ground below as horrified witnesses gasp in disbelief. A voice can reportedly be heard shouting, “Guys, the rope!” only after the fatal mistake had already been made.

Among those witnessing the tragedy was de Freitas’ fiancé, who could do nothing but watch in horror as the unimaginable unfolded before his eyes.

Authorities say the three guides responsible for the jump later claimed they were unaware that the victim had never been connected to the swing rope.

According to local reports, the rope remained on the bridge even after de Freitas was launched into the air.

Another video reportedly shows the guides standing nearby in apparent shock following the incident. Two of them allegedly fled into a wooded area shortly afterward, leaving others at the scene scrambling to help the critically injured woman.

One bystander, 26-year-old nurse Rayza Gabrieli Dias Delfino, immediately rushed down to where de Freitas had landed.

Delfino later told investigators she found the victim with a faint pulse and desperately attempted to perform lifesaving measures while waiting for emergency responders.

Rescue teams soon arrived and continued efforts to revive the young woman. Paramedics reportedly used a defibrillator and performed advanced resuscitation procedures, but despite their efforts, de Freitas was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police quickly launched an investigation into the fatal incident.

All three guides involved in the jump were arrested and later charged with homicide.

Authorities also discovered that the operation was allegedly running without proper authorization.

“It was a team that wasn’t regulated. They didn’t even have permission to operate there,” police spokesperson Andrea Dantas Levy said in comments reported by local media.

Investigators have since questioned the three suspects about how such a catastrophic failure could occur.

According to police, two of the guides claimed they experienced a “blackout” and could not remember whether the rope had been attached.

“They said they cannot remember when or where the mistake happened,” Levy explained. “They don’t know who should have attached it and failed to do so.”

The third suspect reportedly stated that his role was only to assist in pushing the participant during the jump.

Adding to the heartbreak, de Freitas had shared her excitement about the adventure just hours before the tragedy.

In what has now become a chilling final social media post, she joked about her upcoming leap.

“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge???” she wrote.

Investigators later tracked down the fleeing guides using a military helicopter search operation in nearby wooded terrain.

Authorities are also examining the practices of the unlicensed adventure company involved in the incident. Reports indicate that participants were charged approximately $36 for the jump, with an additional fee offered for the use of a 360-degree action camera.

Moments before her fatal fall, de Freitas was reportedly carrying one of those cameras, hoping to capture the experience.

Instead, the footage became evidence in a tragedy that investigators say never should have happened.

Now, a young woman’s final adventure has become the focus of a criminal investigation, while grieving family members search for answers about how such a devastating mistake could occur in full view of those entrusted with her safety.
