ONE MOTHER VANISHED. FIVE YEARS LATER, THE JURY MADE ITS DECISION.

CALIFORNIA HORROR: Wife Vanished — Husband Was Later Seen Moving a Mysterious Freezer

Justice has finally arrived after five years of unanswered questions.

In a landmark verdict that has shaken San Diego, a jury has found Larry Millete, 44, guilty of first-degree murder in the disappearance of his wife, May “Maya” Millete, a mother of three who vanished in January 2021. Her body has never been found.

Although the defense argued that prosecutors could not prove murder without a body, the prosecution built a powerful case using digital evidence, surveillance footage, and a web of circumstantial evidence that ultimately convinced the jury.

Among the most chilling pieces of evidence presented during the seven-week trial were:

The mysterious freezer: Security cameras captured a large freezer being removed from the Millete family home just two days after Maya was last seen alive. The appliance was loaded into the pickup truck of one of Larry’s relatives—and investigators say it was never seen again.

The unexplained 12-hour trip: On the day Maya disappeared, Larry’s truck left the family home and traveled more than 400 miles (over 640 kilometers) during a roughly 12-hour journey. According to prosecutors, he was never able to provide investigators with a credible explanation for where he went or why.

The disturbing sounds that night: Neighbors’ audio surveillance systems reportedly recorded loud, unusual banging noises coming from the house on the same night Maya’s cellphone went silent forever—just one day before she was expected to sign divorce papers.

The trial also revealed disturbing evidence that prosecutors said demonstrated premeditation. Jurors heard about emails showing Larry had paid online “spell casters” in an effort to cause physical harm to his wife. Investigators also testified that they discovered a bottle containing hemlock, a highly poisonous plant, inside the family home.

After the guilty verdict was announced in 2026, Maya’s sister, Maricris, broke down in tears outside the courthouse.

“Today, justice has been served. But this is only the first step. The second step is bringing my sister home to the three children who have waited for her for five long years.”

Authorities emphasized that although Larry Millete has now been convicted, the search for Maya’s remains will continue until her family finally has the answers they have been seeking since 2021.

The case stands as a powerful reminder that even when the most critical piece of evidence is missing, investigators can still piece together the truth.
