A 55-year-old preschool special education assistant in South Carolina was found dead two days after she was reported missing.
According to the Greer Police Department, Rebecca Beets was last seen on Saturday, Jan. 3, walking in the area of Novelty Drive in Greer.
Two days later, police confirmed that Beets had been found dead.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) stated in a news release issued that same day that deputies were called to assist Greer police about a missing 55-year-old female at about 3:30 p.m. local time. Her body was later found by GCSO drone pilots.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the body as belonging to Beets, CBS affiliate WSPA, NBC affiliate WYFF and 98.9 WORD.
Following an autopsy, the coroner’s office determined that she died by suicide, a GCSC spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE, noting there was nothing suspicious concerning her death.
Beets served as a preschool special education assistant with the Greenview Child Development Center, part of Greenville County Schools, according to the center’s website.
