Buried Tragedy Emerges After Rescue of 16 Children From Ohio Horror House

A heartbreaking chapter from the past has resurfaced in the shocking case involving the Ohio parents accused of raising 16 children in conditions investigators described as worse than those for farm animals.

Newly uncovered state records reveal that Elizabeth Siders, 33, once gave birth to conjoined twin girls who survived only a few hours after entering the world.

The twins, Bailey Lee and Faith Lee Siders, were delivered prematurely at just 24 weeks’ gestation at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus on Nov. 20, 2022. According to official records obtained by WOWK 13, the babies were born with thoracopagus, a rare condition in which conjoined twins are fused at the chest and upper abdomen. They died naturally later that same day.

The revelation comes as Elizabeth, her husband Gary Siders Jr., and his parents, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, face multiple felony charges after authorities uncovered what prosecutors have called one of the most disturbing child neglect cases in Ohio history.

Investigators found 16 children, ranging in age from 1 to 18, living almost entirely inside a cramped 12-by-12-foot room in the family’s Vinton County home. Officials say the room was covered in human waste, and the children had allegedly been forced to remain there for years in filthy, isolated conditions.

Authorities described the home as “deplorable” and comparable to “third-world” living conditions, adding that even livestock are typically kept in better environments.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has referred to the investigation as an “intra-family case,” and officials have not yet confirmed whether Elizabeth and Gary Jr. are the biological parents of all 16 children.

The children’s condition has stunned investigators.

None of them had ever been enrolled in school, officials said. Many struggled to communicate, while some were reportedly unable to speak at all. The oldest child, an 18-year-old with developmental disabilities, could not even write her own name, according to investigators.

After the rescue, the children were transported to hospitals across Ohio for emergency treatment. Several were listed in serious condition. Two had to be airlifted to trauma centers, while at least one child required intubation.

As the investigation continues, relatives say they were blindsided by what authorities discovered.

Ronnie Fletcher, who is married to one of the grandparents’ adult daughters, told WOWK 13 that he and other family members knew the couple had a large family—but believed they had around 10 children, not 16.

The shocking allegations, he said, left the extended family devastated.

“If we had known what was happening inside that house, we would have done something,” Fletcher said. “Even if it meant taking the children ourselves or helping them financially.”

Fletcher also revealed troubling details about Elizabeth’s relationship with Gary Jr. The two married in 2008 when Elizabeth was only 15 years old and Gary Jr. was 18.

According to Fletcher, Elizabeth had experienced a difficult childhood and moved into Gary Jr.’s parents’ home, which at the time appeared to be “a normal American home.”

Their first child was reportedly born just two months after the wedding.

Court records list the children’s ages as 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 11, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4-year-old twins, 2-year-old twins, and 1-year-old twins.

All four defendants have pleaded not guilty to 16 counts of child endangerment. A judge set bail at $300,000 each, and the defendants later waived their preliminary hearings.

If convicted on every charge, each could face up to 192 years in prison.
