BODY OF MISSING LEXINGTON WOMAN FOUND; SLED NOW LEADING DEATH INVESTIGATION
The search for 39-year-old Elena Katherine Moore has come to a heartbreaking end.
During a press conference Wednesday evening, the Lexington Police Department announced that Moore’s body was located at approximately 2:48 p.m. after investigators received a tip that directed them to a specific area. Authorities said that information prompted a search, which ultimately led to the discovery of Moore’s body.
Moore had been missing since June 12 after she was last seen leaving Planet Fitness in Lexington and walking toward a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Her disappearance sparked an extensive search involving law enforcement, emergency responders, and concerned members of the community.
At this time, Elena’s cause of death remains unknown.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, commonly known as SLED, has assumed responsibility for the death investigation and will work to determine how she died and whether any criminal activity was involved. Officials have not released any information indicating whether foul play is suspected.
Last night, a report circulated on social media regarding possible sightings of a woman matching Moore’s description. While police have confirmed that a tip led them to the area where her body was found, they have not publicly identified the source of that information or disclosed additional details about the tip.
