Tiger Woods car crash, DUI arrest sparks reaction across sports media
By now, we all know Tiger Woods was involved in another auto accident and arrested on suspicion of DUI. The golf star suffered no injuries in a two-vehicle rollover crash of his Land Rover on Jupiter Island on Friday.
But Woods was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test by the Martin County Sheriff’s Department before being released from jail Friday night and driven home in a private vehicle.

LYNCH: Tiger Woods deserves empathy, but needs to show responsibility, too
Reaction across the media has been swift and sharp. While Woods has been talking recently about possibly playing in the Masters, that appears unlikely in the aftermath of the accident and arrest, even if he was uninjured. The media circus will be ramped up in Augusta — even if Masters officials control that event like no other — if Woods were to show up.
Even President Donald Trump weighed in on Tiger after landing in Miami on Friday evening.
“I feel so badly, his, uh, he’s got some difficulty,” Trump said. “There was an accident, and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine. An amazing person, amazing man … but some difficulty.”
Here is a sample of what others are saying about Woods’ accident and arrest:
Tiger Woods chastised for being reckless, told to get help
“Tiger Woods needs help. Not a high-priced attorney who can make his latest DUI go away. Not a spin doctor who can make excuses for him. Not sycophants who will tell him how wonderful he is and minimize the recklessness of his actions. As soon as he’s released from the Martin County Jail in Florida, Woods needs to go straight to rehab and stay there for as long as it takes for him to overcome his addiction.” — USA TODAY Sports columnist Nancy Armour

“There’s no athlete more difficult for the American public to quit than Tiger Woods. It doesn’t need to. It doesn’t need to write him off. It doesn’t need to banish him. Two DUIs in a decade and another horrific single-car accident five years ago are not inherently signs of a bad person. Yet, they are still mistakes. They are reckless. They are the choices of a person not thinking responsibly and definitely not thinking of others. And strangely, the errors of Woods’ near 50 years in the limelight are a sizable portion of his Shakespearian arc — the chosen one who can come back from anything, the injuries and the misdeeds.” — Brody Miller, The Athletic
“For all that Tiger Woods has done on the golf course — all the trophies and green jackets and praise that he’s achieved and deserved — his life outside the ropes continues to spiral. Friday afternoon’s two-car crash is just another bright red line in a clear, unmistakable message to Woods: Get help. Soon.” — Jay Busbee, Yahoo! Sports
“This week, yet another comeback ended in yet another crash. Another photo of a blurry-eyed Woods staring forlornly at a jail camera for a mugshot, a look on his face that seems to reflect what the rest of us are thinking: How did we get here again? — Kyle Feldscher, CNN
Wade Boggs with pointed message to Tiger Woods
“My Mom got killed by a drunk driver. I hope you wake up Mr. Woods.” — MLB Hall of Famer Wade Boggs on X
“This is exactly what should have happened in CA a few years ago back but the star struck cop let him go.” — Former Sports Illustrated sports columnist Rick Reilly on X
“It’s so sad, it’s troubling and it’s, frankly, appalling. Why is he not getting help?” — CNN sports analyst Christine Brennan
