Police in South Carolina have discovered a body in a remote, densely forested area that matches the characteristics of Elena Moore, the missing personal trainer
The body of a woman who matches the description of Elena Katherine Moore was discovered on Wednesday, June 17, nearly a week after Moore vanished in Lexington, S.C., police said.
Chief Terrence Green of the Lexington Police Department said in a press conference that the body was found at around 2:48 p.m. local time after investigators received a tip leading them to North Lake Road and Old Cherokee Road on Wednesday, June 17.
The area is near the Planet Fitness gym Moore, 39, was last seen leaving.

Police found a body that “fits the clothing description of our missing person,” Green said, adding that the coroner will identify the body.
“Chief Green would also like to thank our numerous media partners for consistently and aggressively disseminating the information provided to them,” police wrote in a statement. “Due to their commitment to public information, LPD received hundreds of tips and leads that have assisted with every step of this investigation.”
Moore was reported missing on June 12, a day after she was seen leaving the gym, police said in a previous statement.
Moore signed in at the gym at about 6:40 p.m. local time on June 11, NBC affiliate WIS reported.
Moore, a personal trainer at Wolf’s Fitness Center, a few miles away, was seen walking toward a wooded area behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store, where police found the body on Wednesday, ABC News reported.
Lexington Police Department Inspector Missy Silcox said that it would be “very out of character” for Moore to disappear in this manner, according to the outlet.
