Florida alligator attack: Video reveals police rescue efforts
A peaceful hike in the Florida wilderness turned into a nightmare when 31-year-old Brittany Clark was brutally attacked by a massive alligator while swimming in shallow river waters, according to officials. Newly released body camera footage from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office reveals the chaotic aftermath, showing first responders racing through thick brush to reach the victim at the Econlockhatchee River in the Little Big Econ State Forest.
On June 28, Clark, her boyfriend Chance Allison, and a friend were hiking near the Barr Street Trailhead when they decided to cool off in approximately three feet of murky water. What began as a refreshing break quickly became a fight for survival. An alligator suddenly seized Clark’s arm and initiated a violent “death roll,” a spinning maneuver alligators use to dismember prey and drown it. Allison heroically grabbed the reptile in an attempt to free his girlfriend, but the powerful animal pulled both of them underwater before finally releasing her.
Clark suffered catastrophic injuries, with both arms severely mauled—one nearly severed and the other barely attached. Friends applied CPR on the shore while desperately calling 911. Harrowing audio from those emergency calls captures the panic as bystanders described the extent of her wounds and begged for immediate help. A deputy arriving on scene can be seen in the bodycam video pulling out a tourniquet in a frantic bid to stop the heavy bleeding. Despite their efforts, Clark was transported to the hospital as a trauma alert but succumbed to her injuries en route.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) responded swiftly. Investigators captured and euthanized two large alligators near the site—a 13-foot specimen right at the location and a 12.5-foot one nearby. DNA testing is underway to confirm which animal was responsible. Officials noted that a statewide drought had lowered water levels, making it harder to spot the hidden predators in the murky conditions, though such unprovoked attacks remain relatively rare in Florida.
Clark, originally from California and working as a bulldozer operator in Orlando, was remembered by loved ones as a fun-loving, adventurous, and caring soul who enjoyed the outdoors, biking, her pets, and spending time with friends. Her boyfriend described her as the strongest and most outgoing person he had ever known, while family and friends set up a fundraiser to help return her remains to California.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in Florida’s waterways. Experts advise respecting wildlife, avoiding swimming in unmarked natural areas, and maintaining vigilance even in shallow water. The bodycam footage, though heavily redacted for sensitivity, underscores the rapid response of first responders and the bravery of those on scene, even as it highlights how quickly an ordinary day outdoors can turn fatal. Investigations continue, but the focus remains on honoring Clark’s vibrant spirit and urging greater awareness of alligator safety in the Sunshine State.
