A woman has found love again after her husband suffered a traumatic brain injury — and she cares for him with the help of someone just as special: her new lover.
Amanda and Matt Robinson were high school sweethearts who first met in 2003. They married two years later and eventually went on to welcome two sons together, according to SWNS.
Their lives changed in February 2021, when Matt, 42, was involved in a car accident, during which his head was “crushed.”
Matt spent 10 months in the hospital, and when he was discharged, Amanda, 39, became his full-time caretaker. Over time, caring for Matt became overwhelming, and Amanda opted to move him into a nearby care home.
Last April, Amanda met Josh Roy, a country singer, and the pair began a relationship. Now, Amanda’s new love helps her care for her husband.

Recalling the aftermath of her husband’s tragic accident, Amanda said, “When I went to the hospital to see him, I was just in shock. I couldn’t believe it was him. His eyes were black, he had blood coming out of his ears, eyes and nose. His head was all wrapped and bloody.”
The mom of two further recalled that “there was literally no sign of life” in Matt, who she said “is now physically fine” but unable to “retain any information.”

“If I say, ‘Hi, Matt,’ he will say ‘hi’ back, but he can’t engage in conversation,” Amanda explained. “He will just sit there on the couch all day. He doesn’t know how to ask for something to eat or drink. I have to tell him, ‘It’s time to get up now. It’s time to get dressed.’ “
“I used to feel so sad that he lost his career, he lost knowing his kids, he lost friends, he lost everything. He’s just kind of physically here,” she continued.
When Amanda decided to move Matt to a facility that could care for him in 2024, she knew it was a necessary step to take.
“We had a great life, and I don’t think he would regret anything,” she said, per SWNS. “I lost all the same things he did. I lost my career, I lost a lot of time with my kids, I couldn’t do things with friends anymore. I realized that me and my sons needed to be happy too.”

Amanda eventually met Josh, 38, at local bar, where he was performing in a country music band. The pair exchanged numbers, and weeks later, Amanda attended another of Josh’s shows.
There, she told him about Matt and his brain injury. “I don’t think he fully understood what I meant, but then I saw him again a few weeks later, and he said he’d looked at my Facebook page, which I used to update friends and family about Matt’s condition, and he said Matt sounded like a great guy,” Amanda said.

Months after Amanda and Josh made their relationship official, Amanda, who works as a nurse, took Josh with her to one of her regular visits to see her husband. There, Josh played his guitar for Matt.
Now, Josh helps Amanda when it comes to matters surrounding Matt, including attending hospital appointments and carrying Matt’s wheelchair. “I did this all by myself for years, and now I have somebody else right there with me, and I’m not doing it all alone,” Amanda said.
Amanda’s two sons, ages 20 and 16, have since warmed up to Josh as well, and they are appreciative of the efforts he makes when it comes to their dad.
Josh, for his part, recognizes the unique dynamic of his relationship with Amanda. “After hearing about who Matt was prior to his accident, I had nothing but utmost respect for the man he still would be today if he could be,” he said.
“I told Amanda that I wish he could miraculously recover so she can have her family back together, and [if that were ever] the case, I would step aside and be so happy for her and her kids,” Josh added. “I enjoy visiting him, and I care about him. Amanda is a wonderful woman.”
