A devastating update regarding the 12-year-old boy who was mauled by a shark on Sunday in the Sydney, Australia harbor, kicking off a nightmare series of four attacks in 48 hours.
Nico Antic was swimming in the suburb of Vaucluse, launching off a jump rock into the water with a group of friends. Then, amidst the murky waters, he was attacked by a suspected bull shark. One of his friends jumped in after Antic, and dragged him ashore.
Now, in an update, the young boy is facing the “worst possible outcome.”
A GoFundMe account has been created by a close friend of the family to support them in this difficult time. According to Victor Piñeiro, who started the crowdfunding effort:
“Tragically, their beloved child, Nico, was attacked by a shark on Sunday in Sydney harbour and sustained devastating injuries. Despite all efforts, this heartbreaking event has led to the worst possible outcome.”
Per an exclusive, speaking with a family member, the Daily Mail reported Nico “remains alive in hospital but is brain-dead and will never wake up.”

In other news related to the spate of shark attacks that rocked Sydney, 27-year-old Andre de Ruyter, the surfer who was attacked on Monday near Manly Beach at North Steyne, has been “placed in stable condition,” according to his mother.
Sharing an update to the Manly Observer, de Ruyter’s mother said:
“We would like to express our gratitude to all the brave first responders to our son Andre relating to the shark attack at Manly Beach yesterday. Andre de Ruyter, our compassionate, talented musician, graphic artist and lover of surfing has been placed in a stable condition with wonderful attentive medical staff.”
