LATEST UPDATE: More than 100 memorial rides have been planned to honor Alex Pretti….

Memorial rides will be taking place across the U.S. and around the globe on Saturday, January 31 to honor Alex Pretti, a Minneapolis-based mountain biker who was shot and killed by federal agents during an ICE operation on January 24, 2026.

Pretti, 37, was an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center and an active member of the local cycling community. According to colleagues and family members interviewed by local media, he was a regular rider who spent much of his free time outdoors and on his bike.

Within the cycling community, the focus has turned toward remembrance. South Minneapolis bike shop Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop, where Pretti was a regular customer, announced a memorial ride scheduled for January 31, starting at Washburn Fair Oaks Park. The shop has encouraged riders in other cities to organize simultaneous rides in their own communities.

“Please join in, near or far,” the shop wrote in a social media post announcing the event, calling on riders, shops, and cycling groups to participate.

Cyclists in dozens of other cities, including Atlanta, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco, have already begun organizing parallel memorial rides to coincide with the Minneapolis gathering.

Bikepacking.com and Ride With GPS have put together this map that makes it easy to find a memorial ride in your area:

If you know of any rides that aren’t included on the map please post them in the comments.
