“Whose Line Is It Anyway?” alum Colin Mochrie is stepping back from live performances as he recovers from emergency surgery.
News of the 68-year-old comedian’s health was shared in a Jan. 2 Instagram post from his ongoing Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis tour with Asad Mecci.
“We regret to inform you that our upcoming shows will be postponed due to a medical situation involving Colin Mochrie,” the Hyprov team’s statement said. “Colin has been diagnosed with a detached retina and will be undergoing emergency eye surgery today.”
The post continued: “His medical team is optimistic about his full recovery, but he needs time to rest and heal.”
Mochrie and hypnotist Mecci had two shows scheduled in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on Jan. 2 and 3. All tickets for those dates will be honored for the new shows.
In a statement to USA TODAY on Jan. 5, manager Jeff Abraham confirmed Mochrie is “resting” and grateful for fans’ support.
“I want to say Thank You to everyone for their well wishes. I’m very much looking forward to seeing you all very soon,” Mochrie said in a statement.
According to Mochrie’s website, his next show – on the Asking for Trouble Tour with fellow “Whose Line?” alum Brad Sherwood – is scheduled for Jan. 30.
Mochrie was a staple on “Whose Line?” since its 1998 debut, sticking with the improv comedy show through multiple network changes and a 2013 revival. It went off-air in 2024.
Among the Canadian performer’s more than 100 film and TV credits are “Murdoch Mysteries,” 2002’s “Jane White Is Sick & Twisted” and “Thew Drew Carey Show.”
