Within days, that changed. Ashlee was found unconscious inside their luxury villa and rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead hours later. Authorities have not released a cause of death, and the timeline between her final post and her death remains unclear.
Joe McCann’s account raises questions
Joe McCann, a crypto finance executive and founder of Asymmetric Financial, has not spoken publicly about the incident. Multiple reports indicate that he told authorities Ashlee died by suicide, specifically by hanging.
However, no autopsy or toxicology findings have been released, reportedly, leaving the cause of death unconfirmed. The lack of direct communication from McCann has only intensified attention on his version of events, especially as speculation continues to spread online.
Family rejects the narrative
According to reports, Ashlee’s family has taken a more measured approach, but their message is clear. In a statement released days after her death, they described her passing as ‘suspicious’ and emphasised that there are ‘many unanswered questions.’
They did not directly accuse McCann or confirm any alternative theory. Instead, they stressed that an active investigation is underway and that they are working closely with authorities in Zanzibar.
‘We are placing our trust in the officials in Zanzibar and are working closely with them as we seek clarity and answers,’ the family said in a public statement. At the same time, the language of their statement signals that they are not accepting a simple explanation for what happened.
Friends speak out more directly
While the family has remained cautious, Ashlee’s friends have been far more vocal. A viral post from close friend Savannah Britt pushed the story into the spotlight, openly rejecting the idea that Ashlee took her own life.
‘Anyone who knows Ash knows she would NEVER commit suicide. We need answers now,’ she wrote on X. Those who knew her have pointed to her recent engagement, her positive social media presence, and her overall mindset as reasons they find the suicide claim difficult to believe.

He says that effort paid off … officials were able to make contact, and the family was informed an autopsy was completed Tuesday.
But here’s the frustrating part: they still don’t have the results. Harry says the family has only been told the investigation remains ongoing … and they’re now waiting on the full report to determine what comes next.
Adding to the pain, Tanzanian officials have not yet released Ashlee’s body to her family … leaving them without closure on multiple fronts. Once those results do come in, the family plans to move forward accordingly — but for now, they’re stuck waiting.
A local Tanzanian outlet obtained records from a facility she was reportedly taken to that listed her “immediate cause of death” as cerebral hypoxia due to strangulation and suffocation.
As we reported, Ashlee — real name Ashly Robinson — was found unconscious at a resort villa on the island of Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania and rushed to a hospital, where she died the following day, on April 10.
Authorities say she had been involved in a disputewith her fiancé, Joe McCann, shortly before she was found — with hotel staff reportedly stepping in and separating the two into different rooms. That incident remains a key focus of the active investigation.
A local report previously suggested police were exploring the possibility of suicide … but Ashlee’s family has firmly rejected that, telling TMZ she was a “beacon of light” and showed no signs she would harm herself.
They also say they’ve heard little to nothing from her fiancé since her death — and are still trying to obtain surveillance footage from the hotel, hoping it will help piece together what really happened in her final hours. The family is considering flying to Tanzania to meet with officials face to face.
Influencer blasted for filming ‘dead body,’ cracking jokes about it over fancy dinner
A social media influencer is under fire for posting a video that appears to show a dead body — and cracking jokes about it while she enjoyed a fancy steakhouse anniversary dinner.
Sarah Stusek shared a video of her anniversary dinner with her husband — but the clip included a body lying in the middle of the street underneath a white blanket at the scene of the fatal crash, surrounded by yellow caution tape.
“I didn’t plan on filming our anniversary dinner but when we walked up there was a dead body outside, so I knew it was going to be an eventful one,” Stusek, who has more than 323,000 followers on TikTok, quipped in the video, which appears to have been deleted.
The video shows the DC-area influencer enjoying oysters and other delicacies with her beau at the Oak Steakhouse in Alexandria, Virginia, as police investigate a fatal accident behind them.
“We enjoyed our evening under the red and blue strobe light,” she says, insensitive to the grave situation just feet away. The video ends with the couple hugging with police still in the background.
The Alexandria Police Department said this week a 62-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene after she was hit by a car on Monday at the same location seen in the video.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. at N. St. Asaph St. and Montgomery St. The driver who hit her, a 42-year-old man, remained on the scene, cops said. The crash remains under investigation.
The video drew comparisons influencer and wrestler Logan Paul, who infamously filmed himself beside a corpse in Japan’s notorious “Suicide Forest” in 2017. He later took the video down and issued an apology.
Stusek has not appeared to address the controversy and did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
Social media users attacked Stusek on her platforms as she continued to post.
“Just moving right past that other diabolical video?” one TikToker commented on Stusek’s latest video, posted on Wednesday.
“Is this the new Logan Paul?” another gibed.
“Reflect upon yourself and think about how you can be a better person,” urged one commenter.
