THE HEART RATE LIE? Smartwatch data ‘catches’ arrested ‘Soulmate’ husband at rest during 8-hour ‘paddling’ ordeal—as lawyer claims past choking allegations are ‘unrelated’ to wife’s disappearance

‘Gone Girl’ fever grips the Bahamas as sightings of a ‘lookalike’ spark theories that Lynette is framing her abusive husband.
ABACO, BAHAMAS – The digital noose is tightening around Brian Hooker, the Michigan yachtsman who claimed he spent eight agonizing hours chèo thuyền (paddling) for his life after his wife vanished in the Caribbean.
In a bombshell development that has left his legal team scrambling, sources close to the FBI investigation reveal that smartwatch data recovered from the 59-year-old suspect tells a very different story. While Brian claimed to be fighting “treacherous currents” in a desperate bid to save his wife, Lynette, 55, his heart rate allegedly remained at a “near-resting state” for the duration of the night.
The ‘Resting’ Killer?
The data suggests that instead of a frantic physical struggle, Hooker may have been sitting stationary—or simply waiting—while his wife was lost to the dark waters.
“Digital footprints don’t lie,” said one forensic analyst. “If you are paddling an 8-foot dinghy against a 4-knot current, your heart rate should be through the roof. Brian’s data shows a man who was as calm as a summer breeze.”
‘Unrelated’ Abuse?
As the evidence mounts, Hooker’s attorney has launched a aggressive defense, attempting to decouple his client’s violent history from the disappearance. In a statement that has sparked outrage among Lynette’s family, the lawyer claimed:
“Allegations of past abuse, including claims of choking, are completely unrelated to the tragic accident of a woman falling overboard in rough seas. This is a character assassination, not a murder trial.”
However, investigators are refusing to look away. Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has provided evidence of a “history of horror,” alleging that Brian had previously threatened to “toss her mother to the sharks.”
The Yacht’s ‘Black Box’ Audio
The case took an even darker turn this morning following reports that the FBI has recovered “Black Box” audio from the couple’s yacht, the Soulmate.
The recording, reportedly captured by a motion-activated security device in the main cabin, documents a “vicious” final confrontation. On the tape, a woman’s voice—believed to be Lynette—is heard screaming: “I told you what I’d do! Get away from me!” followed by the sound of glass shattering. Minutes later, the couple set off on the ill-fated dinghy trip from which only Brian returned.
The ‘Gone Girl’ Hypothesis
While the evidence points toward a pre-meditated hit, a wild new theory is circulating through the islands: The Gone Girl Twist.
Local police are reportedly investigating a “credible sighting” of a woman matching Lynette’s description at a private dock in Nassau. Supporters of this theory suggest that Lynette—a master sailor—may have used her husband’s own violent threats against him, staging her disappearance to ensure he spends the rest of his life behind bars.
Staged or Strangled?
The news comes just 48 hours after Brian Hooker’s bizarre “handcuffed plunge” from a police transport boat. While his lawyer cited “rough waters,” critics are branding the incident a “scripted legal stunt” designed to mimic Lynette’s death and create “reasonable doubt” before a jury.
As the sonar search continues near Abaco Point, the world is left to wonder: Is Brian Hooker a clumsy victim of the ocean’s fury, or is he the most cold-blooded actor to ever sail the Caribbean?
The ocean is giving up its secrets—and time is running out for the man who thought he could sail away from the truth.

NEED TO KNOW
- Brian Hooker’s attorney says her client denies any wrongdoing in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, in the Bahamas
- Lynette disappeared after going overboard while on a dinghy with her husband
- Brian was taken into custody for questioning by police in the Bahamas
The attorney representing Brian Hooker, the American arrested in the Bahamas in connection with his wife’s disappearance, tells PEOPLE that “allegations of abuse or a tumultuous relationship” do not explain what happened to Lynette Hooker.
Lynette and Brian were on a small dinghy on their way to Elbow Cay from Hope Town on April 4 when she went overboard with the boat keys, authorities previously said.
Brian paddled back to shore to alert authorities, Bahamas police said in a statement.
Police in the Bahamas subsequently said they had taken a man into custody for questioning, which Brian’s attorney in the Bahamas, Terrel A. Butler, confirmed to PEOPLE was Brian.
Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, said in a statement previously reported by PEOPLE that she has been “privy to very little information” and claimed that “there have been prior issues brought to my attention, which may be important for any thorough investigation,” though she did not specify the issues in the statement.
After Brian was taken into custody, Butler, provided a statement to PEOPLE saying, “Mr. Hooker categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing and in particular the allegations recently made by Karli Aylesworth.”

Butler’s statement added, “He has been cooperating with the relevant authorities as part of an ongoing investigation.”
In an interview Butler further tells PEOPLE that “previous history does not have anything to do with what actually took place on that day.”
“He’s the only witness to what transpired, and he has said he has done nothing wrong, so to refer to allegations of abuse or a tumultuous relationship does not explain what happened on the day and indicate whether or not he was somehow culpable for anything that may have happened to her,” she says.
Hours before his arrest, Brian posted an account of her disappearance on Facebook, saying that “unpredictable seas and high winds” had caused her to fall from their boat.
“Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart,” he said. “We continue to search for her and that is my sole focus.”
Police have not said if Brian will be charged with a crime.
