Outlander has been on screens for more than a decade, and now the fantasy historical drama has finally drawn to a close with an epic finale.
Called And the World Was All Around Us, the final episode saw Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) preparing for the battle at Kings Mountain.
There was a flashback to the opening episode of Outlander, in which Jamie’s ghost observed Claire in 1940s Inverness.
Without giving too much away about what happened at the end, fans were left devastated by the tragic events that unfolded, including an emotional montage of Jamie and Claire moments spanning the years of Outlander.
While some fans hailed it a brilliant ending, many were fuming and took to X (formerly Twitter) to air their complaints.

One fan said: “#Outlander finale was the most rushed and unnecessary finale of all time and might rival The Sopranos for dumbest ending ever.”
Another penned: “What an absolutely STUPID ending to the #Outlander TV series.”
A third shared: “What the hell kind of ending is that #outlander,” while a fourth commented: “#Outlander finale a bit of a cop out.”
A fifth added: “I’m complaining a lot, but it’s just that they really wasted time on unnecessary things. But oh well, it is what it is, and it’s what they gave us.”
However, many fans were left in tears over the “beautiful” storyline, with one saying: “The best love story ever, the best couple ever, God, I’m going to miss them so much.”

Another shared: “It’s easy to judge someone for crying over finishing a series, but damn it is THE BEST series with the best love story ever told, thank you #OUTLANDER thank you for taking me to an incredible place like Scotland. Jamie Fraser, I’m going to see and love you until the end of my days.”
A final fan added: “How sentimental this scene made me feel, seeing so many memories of Claire and Jamie, they were always the embodiment of love, I’ll carry them in my heart forever.”
The stars of the series had no idea what ending would be chosen for the final cut after multiple versions were filmed.
Outlander showrunner Matthew B. Roberts told Entertainment Weekly he wanted to leave the series finale up to fans’ interpretation.
When asked whether Jamie and Claire survived, he simply said, “You tell me. I’m not going to tell any single fan how to interpret that last beat.”
Open-ended finales have always been a bugbear for viewers, who often prefer a definitive ending with all questions answered.
