Theo cảnh sát, một lính cứu hỏa đã bị bắt giữ sau khi dùng rìu đánh chết vợ mình, rồi bảo cảnh sát đến kiểm tra tình trạng của bà ta.
Cảnh sát đã còng tay Andrew Jimenez, 45 tuổi, sau khi họ xông vào nhà của anh ta và vợ là Mayra ở Los Angeles, California và phát hiện ra một cảnh tượng kinh hoàng.
Hàng xóm cho biết họ đã nghe thấy một cuộc cãi vã xảy ra trong ngôi nhà nằm ở thung lũng San Fernando, thuộc hạt Los Angeles, vào thứ Tư.
Theo Sở Cảnh sát Los Angeles, Jiminez sau đó đã đi bộ đến một đồn cảnh sát gần đó và yêu cầu các sĩ quan đang đi ngang qua đến nhà anh ta để kiểm tra tình trạng sức khỏe.
Theo cảnh sát, người này khai rằng đã cố gắng liên lạc với Mayra nhưng không thành công.
Những cư dân hoảng sợ đứng bên ngoài nhà Jiminez cho biết các thám tử đã bàn tán về hiện trường kinh hoàng đó.
Họ ngỡ ngàng nhìn các nhân viên mang các thùng tang vật ra khỏi khu nhà, trong đó có hai khẩu súng trường.
“Cảnh tượng ở đó giống như một hiện trường vụ án kinh hoàng,” Camilla Cabrera nói với đài KTTV, một chi nhánh của Fox.
“Tôi nghe các thám tử nói rằng vụ việc này giống hệt như trong phim kinh dị.”
Trao đổi với các phóng viên có mặt tại hiện trường, Trung úy Guy Golan cho biết vụ việc là một hành vi bạo lực gia đình đơn lẻ và người dân vẫn an toàn.
Theo KTTV đưa tin, luật sư đại diện cho Jimenez tuyên bố rằng kẻ giết người bị cáo buộc đã tìm thấy nhật ký của Mayra vào đêm xảy ra vụ án mạng, và nhật ký đó xác nhận rằng cô đã không chung thủy.
Hàng xóm rất sốc khi nghe tin về việc người lính cứu hỏa bị bắt, vì họ cho biết cặp đôi này thường đi dạo quanh khu phố yên tĩnh và chưa bao giờ cãi nhau nơi công cộng.
Mayra là một giáo viên tại trường tiểu học địa phương, được các thành viên của United Teachers Los Angeles (nơi bà là thành viên) nhớ đến với biệt danh “người giáo dục tận tâm”.
Theo KTLA đưa tin, một thành viên công đoàn cho biết ông đã tham dự đám cưới của cặp đôi vào năm 2014 và chưa từng biết đến bất kỳ dấu hiệu mâu thuẫn nào giữa hai người.
Jimenez đã làm việc tại Sở Cứu hỏa Glendale với vai trò là lính cứu hỏa và nhân viên y tế từ năm 2008, và gần đây đã được thăng chức.
Anh ấy đã bị đình chỉ công tác và cho nghỉ phép hành chính.
Jimenez hiện đang bị giam giữ vì nghi ngờ giết người và được ấn định mức bảo lãnh tại ngoại là 2 triệu đô la.
