Missing Without a Trace: A 26-year-old Australian woman disappears after missing her flight home following a solo vacation in Las Vegas

THE tourist who mysteriously disappeared in Las Vegas was staying at a hostel in a “terrible” area off the Strip, according to the manager of the restaurant where she was last seen.

Sally Grace Contarino, 26, had been staying at the Bungalows Hostel on South Las Vegas Boulevard during a solo trip through the southwestern United States.

Contarino, who was visiting the US from Australia, had spent five nights at the hostel while exploring some of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, including Las Vegas and Southern California.

The last confirmed public sighting of her came on the evening of June 19.

Security cameras at a Timbers Bar & Grill captured the Australian woman leaving the restaurant at approximately 10:30pm, news.au reported.

Footage showed her walking down the street wearing dark-colored shorts, a matching tank top, and black-and-white Converse sneakers as she headed back toward the hostel where she had been staying.

Surveillance footage also shows Contarino returning to the hostel in the early hours of June 20.

Additional surveillance footage has also emerged showing Contarino using an ATM before she disappeared.

Investigators are continuing to review CCTV footage from locations around Las Vegas in an effort to piece together her movements before contact with her was lost.

Later that same day, she remotely checked out of the hostel, despite never leaving in person, before she seemingly vanished without a trace.

Authorities believe she may have disappeared somewhere near the Mount Charleston area, about 30 miles west of the city.

Her disappearance has left family members back in Australia fearing the worst after they lost contact with her on June 20 — the day before she was due to fly home.

Police have now launched a missing persons investigation as officers work to determine what happened to the experienced traveler.

The U.S. Sun has contacted the Las Vegas Police Department.

Staff at Timbers Bar & Grill remembered the young tourist from her visit.

Manager Jocelyn Zeigler-Arthur said the “terrible” neighborhood surrounding the hostel was not somewhere she would recommend for a woman traveling alone.

“It is not great for a girl alone,” she said.

Zeigler-Arthur said she appeared to be in good spirits during her visit to the restaurant.

“She was quiet,” the manager said, adding that she seemed “happy.”

Contarino reportedly had already booked her return journey to Australia and had purchased a Greyhound bus ticket that would take her from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, where she was scheduled to catch her international flight home.

However, investigators say the bus ticket was never scanned, suggesting she never boarded the Greyhound.

Before disappearing, Contarino had been documenting her American vacation, which included visits to some of the western United States’ best-known destinations.

She spent time exploring Las Vegas before traveling to Mount Charleston, a quiet mountain community northwest of the city known for hiking trails, cooler temperatures and dramatic scenery.

Despite staying in an area that locals describe as rough, there have been no confirmed reports indicating that Contarino was in distress before she vanished.

Friends and relatives say she was an experienced international traveler who had visited the United States on several previous occasions.

According to Australian media, she had previously traveled to Palm Springs in California as well as Las Vegas, where she enjoyed exploring the desert landscape, wildlife and local culture.

Her familiarity with American travel has made her disappearance even more puzzling to those who know her.

Police have released a description of Contarino in the hope that members of the public may recognize her.

She is described as having a slim build, fair skin, brown hair and brown eyes.

Authorities have not released any additional identifying features.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has opened a missing persons case and is asking anyone who may have seen Contarino or who has information about her whereabouts to contact investigators.

As part of the investigation, local hospitals have also been asked to review admission records in case she sought treatment or was admitted under unknown circumstances after she disappeared.
