EXCLUSIVE: THE CHILLING FIRST TRAILER FOR “THE LAST GUEST OF THE HOLLOWAY MOTEL” HAS ARRIVED!
‘The Last Guest of the Holloway Motel’ will be released in theaters on May 22
A new documentary captures the heartfelt story of how a professional soccer player became a motel manager.
PEOPLE can exclusively share the trailer for The Last Guest of the Holloway Motel. The documentary, directed by Ramiel Petros and Nicholas Freeman, premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released in select theaters starting in late May.
The Last Guest of the Holloway Motel follows former professional soccer player Tony Powell, who disappeared from the field in the 1980s and now lives in West Hollywood’s Holloway Motel. When the motel announces its closure, Powell is forced to face his mysterious past and come to terms with the legacy he’s left behind.

In the documentary, Powell confronts the “relationships he abandoned, the choices that shaped him and the chapter of LGBTQ+ history he once lived through,” according to an official press release. The Last Guest of the Holloway Motel is “a poignant story of memory, identity and homecoming.”
“My name’s Tony Powell,” Powell says, sitting on a beach as the trailer begins. “For 20 years, I have been the manager of the Holloway Motel, and I’m going to be the last manager as we’re closing down.”
The trailer shifts from clips of Powell at the peak of his career as a Norwich City soccer star to Powell in his current life as a motel manager who is about to lose his home and job — begging the question, “How does a professional soccer player end up as a motel manager?”
“I’ve closed out of my life. I just shut down whatever that might be. I just, I don’t want to remember,” Powell says of his past.

The Last Guest of the Holloway Motel marks the directorial debut of Petros and Freeman and is produced by former soccer player Robbie Rogers and executive produced by Greg Berlanti.
“It was an honor to tell Tony Powell’s complicated and remarkable story from famed footballer to motel manager, and we are so happy audiences will get to experience it in theaters this May,” Petros and Freeman shared in the press release.
“Tony Powell’s journey, from the fields of Norwich to the bustling vibe of West Hollywood, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the cost of a life lived in hiding,” said producers Rogers, Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon, Andrew D. Corkin and Beau Ward.
