Brooklyn Beckham accuses his parents – David and Victoria – of controlling behavior, trying to sabotage his marriage, embarrassing him, and causing him serious anxiety: ‘For them, the Beckham brand always comes first. I don’t want to reconcile. I’m standing up for myself.’
Brooklyn Beckham has just shocked the public by speaking out for the first time about her long-standing conflict with her family, frankly criticizing her parents in a lengthy statement posted on Instagram in the early hours of January 20th.
David and Victoria Beckham’s eldest son, 26, insists he has no intention of reconciling and says he is “standing up for himself for the first time in his life.” According to Brooklyn, his life only truly found “peace and relief” after leaving his family and being with his wife, actress Nicola Peltz, 31.
Brooklyn and Nicola are currently seen as the focal point of a serious rift within the Beckham family. For months, the couple has been absent from a number of important events, including David Beckham’s 50th birthday and the knighting ceremony for the former English football star.
Without hesitation, Brooklyn even accused himself of being “controlled by a family that prioritized public exposure above all else.” He said that only after becoming involved with Nicola did he finally escape years of prolonged anxiety.

According to Brooklyn, the rift began at his wedding to Nicola in April 2022. He accused his parents of “relentlessly trying” to sabotage their relationship. Brooklyn claimed his mother, Victoria Beckham, canceled Nicola’s wedding dress design at the “eleventh hour” and “hijacked” the couple’s first dance, leaving him feeling “extremely embarrassed.” Because of this, Brooklyn and Nicola decided to have a private wedding ceremony last year without the Beckham family present.
In an emotional statement, Brooklyn wrote: “I have remained silent for years and tried my best to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team continued to leak information to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak out on my behalf and tell the truth about just a fraction of the lies that have been published.”Â
He stated clearly: “I don’t want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled; I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”Â
Brooklyn claims that from a young age, his parents controlled how his family story was told in the media: “Throughout my life, my parents controlled the stories in the press about our family. Showcase-driven social media posts, family events, and inauthentic relationships were a fixed part of the life I was born into.”Â
He continued: “Recently, I’ve witnessed firsthand the extent to which they are willing to spread countless lies in the media – mostly targeting innocent people – to protect their own image. But I believe that the truth will always come out.”Â
Speaking about the wedding, Brooklyn revealed: “The night before our wedding, some members of my family told me that Nicola ‘wasn’t blood relative’ and ‘wasn’t family’.”
He stated that his wife was constantly treated disrespectfully: “My wife has been consistently treated disrespectfully by my family, despite our best efforts to stay together as a united group.”Â
Brooklyn completely denies the rumors that Nicola controls him: “The story that my wife controls me is completely fabricated. I’ve been controlled by my parents for most of my life.”
Brooklyn also accused his parents of pressuring him to sign a waiver of his name rights before his wedding: “Weeks before the big day, my parents were constantly pressuring and trying to coax me into signing a waiver of my name rights – which would affect me, my wife, and our future children.”Â
He recounted the most hurtful moment of his wedding: “In front of 500 guests, Marc Anthony called me onto the stage – where it was supposed to be my romantic dance with my wife – but instead my mother was waiting to dance with me. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or embarrassed in my life.”
That’s what led the couple to decide to redo their wedding ceremony: “We wanted to create new memories of our wedding day that would bring joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
Brooklyn also explained his absence from his father’s 50th birthday. Despite flying back to London, he said he and his wife were ignored for a week: “We waited in the hotel trying to arrange some quality time with him. He rejected all our attempts, except at a big party with hundreds of guests and cameras everywhere.”Â
He added: “When he finally agreed to meet me, the condition was that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face.”Â
Brooklyn concluded with the harshest words: “My family values publicity and sponsorship deals above all else. The Beckham brand comes first. ‘Family love’ is determined by how much you post on social media.”Â
He emphasized: “I grew up with excessive anxiety. For the first time in my life, since leaving home, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up each morning grateful for the life I’ve chosen, and find peace and relief.”Â
“My wife and I don’t want a life shaped by images, the press, or manipulation. All we want is peace, privacy, and happiness for ourselves and our future family.”
