Who is Michael David McKee, the suspect in the Ohio dentist murder?

Michael David McKee is a 39-year-old vascular surgeon from Chicago who has been charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of an Ohio dentist and his wife. Regarding Michael’s professional background, he is a doctor who graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2014. According to MediFind, Michael David McKee is a Vascular Surgeon. The most shocking detail about Michael McKee is that he is the ex-husband of victim, Monique Tepe. Monique and Michael were married on August 22, 2015, and after two years of spousal life, they decided to split. Their divorce was reportedly finalised in 2017.

Investigators are trying to find out what might have gone so wrong between Michael and Monique that allegedly led him to resort to murder. At the time of his arrest, doctor, Michael was practicing in Rockford, Illinois, and held active medical licenses in both Illinois and California. Michael David McKee is currently held in the Winnebago County Jail in Illinois awaiting extradition to Franklin County, Ohio, to face the murder charges. How was Michael David McKee identified as a suspect in the Ohio murders?

On January 5, police released a security camera footage of a “person of interest” wearing a dark hooded jacket and light-colored pants walking in an alley near the residence during the timeframe of the killings. Detectives reviewed the footage from the Weinland Park neighbourhood in Columbus, where the murders occurred on December 30, 2025. Another footage captured a suspicious vehicle arriving near the victims’ home shortly before the estimated time of the murders (between 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.) and leaving shortly after.

Police tracked the vehicle’s details and identified Michael David McKee as the owner. The vehicle was later located in Rockford, Illinois, near where McKee worked. Court documents state that evidence was found placing Michael in possession of the car both before and after the homicides of Monique Tepe and Spencer Tepe.

Spencer Tepe (37) was a well-regarded dentist who worked at Athens Dental Depot in Athens, Ohio. He was a graduate of Ohio State University and a member of the American Dental Association. His wife, Monique Tepe (39), was a stay-at-home mother to their two young children, aged 4 and 1. The couple had been married since January 2021 and led a happy life as a family of four, as shared by their family members. The deceased couple’s children are now in the care of relatives, their brother-in-law, Rob Misleh, told CNN.

The Tepe family is “heartbroken” at the horrendous death of their beloved Monique and Spencer. They provided a statement to CNN, sharing their grief. The bereaved family reaffirmed their commitment to bringing justice to the deceased and going to any lengths to see the murderer get his/her due punishment. They admitted that their efforts will not be able to undo the deaths of Monique and Spencer; however, their hearts will be at peace if the killer is caught and punished. The statement can be read as:
“We are heartbroken beyond words. While no outcome can ever undo this loss, our family is committed to seeing this tragedy fully and fairly brought to justice, and to honouring Spencer and Monique by protecting the future of the children they loved so deeply.”
