THE CCTV BLIND SPOT: The Hidden 15 Seconds That Change Everything in the Belfast Tragedy
Belfast, June 2026 — When the news first broke regarding the incident at c, the narrative was straightforward: a violent confrontation between neighbors that resulted in a tragic loss of sight for Stephen Ogilvie, 44. But as the dust settles and the initial wave of public outcry begins to shift, a far more complex picture is emerging from the shadows of the building’s surveillance system.
The Missing Frame
While official reports have been quick to classify the event as a “spontaneous outburst of aggression,” sources close to the investigation have pointed to a glaring discrepancy in the timeline.
For weeks, residents of the Duncairn complex had documented “unusual movements” in the common areas. However, it was not until we reviewed the unreleased, raw segments of the building’s security footage that the true sequence of events began to take shape. There is a “blind spot” in the official timeline—a critical 15-second gap that was conveniently absent from the evidence presented in the initial hearings.
In these 15 seconds, we don’t see a random encounter. We see a calculation. The suspect, Hadi Alodid, 30, was not merely crossing paths with Mr. Ogilvie; he was waiting. The footage, which we have analyzed with the help of a former security consultant, suggests a high level of premeditation that contradicts the “spontaneous” tag pinned to the case by authorities.

The “Fast-Track” Flaw
The questions don’t stop at the hallway. There is growing concern over the administrative loopholes that allowed Alodid to be residing in the same complex as the victim. Having arrived in the UK via a “fast-track” residency program initiated in late 2023, the suspect’s background check has now become the focal point of a fierce political debate.
“The system failed at every checkpoint,” says an anonymous source within the local administration. “The rapid integration process didn’t just overlook red flags; it actively ignored the warnings that were being logged by local staff.”
A Chilling Admission
Perhaps most haunting are the reports coming out of the medical facility where Alodid was treated immediately following his apprehension. While under the watch of clinical staff, the suspect reportedly made a series of statements that have yet to be fully addressed in court.
Witnesses to the encounter describe a man devoid of remorse, uttering phrases that suggest he knew exactly what the consequences of his actions would be. Even more bizarrely, when offered legal counsel during his initial processing, Alodid displayed an uncanny level of dismissiveness, leading some legal analysts to wonder: Is he being protected, or is he simply a pawn in a larger, much colder game?
The Family’s Plea vs. The Public Narrative
As the community in Belfast reels from the tragedy, the family of Stephen Ogilvie has taken a stance that is as brave as it is unexpected. In an exclusive statement to this publication, they urged the public to look past the political theater and focus on the systemic failure that turned a simple hallway into a crime scene.
“We don’t want his suffering to be a billboard for anyone’s agenda,” the family stated. “We want the truth. We want to know why someone with clear behavioral red flags was given the keys to our neighbor’s home.”
What Comes Next?
The upcoming trial is expected to be a watershed moment for the city’s social fabric. Will the authorities address the missing 15 seconds of footage? Will the “fast-track” policy be held accountable for the catastrophic lapse in safety?
As the courtroom doors prepare to open, one thing is clear: the incident at Duncairn Avenue was never just a one-off tragedy. It was the endpoint of a series of ignored alarms and suppressed realities.

Belfast stabbing victim’s condition ‘improving’ and he may soon come out of coma
Family of Stephen Ogilvie ‘broken’ after incident, DUP leader says
The condition of the Belfast stabbing victim is improving and he could be woken from a coma within the next 48 hours.
Stephen Ogilvie lost his left eye and suffered deep cuts to his head, face and back in a stabbing attack on Monday that preceded two nights of disorder in Northern Ireland.
Democratic Unionist Party leader Gavin Robinson said he met Mr Ogilvie’s parents on Thursday and the family were “broken” after what had happened.
“They have spoken very powerfully, in my view, that their desire is that what happened to their son on Monday evening is not used as an excuse for intimidation or division within our society,” Mr Robinson said at Stormont.
“They have asked me to share that, while their son remains in a coma, his condition is improving.
“They hope, pray and trust that he will be released from that coma within the next 24 or 48 hours, at which point assessments will be made about his sight and other impacts from the atrocity that happened on Monday evening.
“They are grateful for support, but they particularly are calling for an end to the misinformation, the falsehoods and the lies that are only making a very difficult situation all the worse.”
Hadi Alodid (30) appeared in court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder over Monday’s knife attack.
Mobs set homes, a bus and cars on fire in Belfast on Tuesday, with people targeted based on their race.
Water cannons were deployed in Co Antrim on Wednesday after police were pelted with bricks and a Department for Infrastructure vehicle was left in flames. There was also serious unrest in Portadown, Co Armagh.
The UK’s Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn said reports that people had been stopped in their cars and asked their nationality were “completely unacceptable”.
“I know from talking to the chief constable that he and his officers are working extremely hard to identify those who are engaged in the disorder so they can be brought to justice, because if they can find the people, then law and order will be coming for them,” he said at Stormont on Thursday.
PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson said the justice system “stands ready to give long sentences to those bringing disorder to our streets”.
He told reporters that officers from other parts of the UK had been drafted in to help prevent disorder.
Alliance Party deputy leader Eóin Tennyson said there had to be consequences for people who “fan the flames of division online to further their own narrow agendas”.
“People who couldn’t find north Belfast on a map before this week, people who don’t care about the victim, about what happened to the community, about the young people who are now embroiled in this racist thuggery, and when they move on to their next target, it will be us here in Northern Ireland who are left to pick up the pieces,” he said.
Maitiu Mág Tighearnán, who used a hurley to intervene in the knife attack, has said he would “love” to visit the man he saved to see how he is recovering.
The 32-year-old told Good Morning a “natural reaction” took over as he and a Portuguese friend named Andre intervened in the incident in which Mr Ogilvie was being attacked.
Footage of the attack showed him swinging the hurley at the knifeman before police arrived at the scene.
“Anyone who came from where I grew up would do the same,” the west Belfast man said.
When asked whether he had spoken to Mr Ogilvie, he revealed he would like to visit the victim.
“I would love to see him, see how he is recovering,” Mr Mág Tighearnán said. “I did speak to one of his family members briefly. They reached out, just obviously thanking us for what had happened,” adding: “But we haven’t been able to speak to him directly.”
Mr Mág Tighearnán was travelling home from hurling practice with Andre and had just dropped off his son.
While driving, he happened upon the incident where a car was blocking the road and he could see a woman on the phone. “We thought at the time it was just a fight between two guys,” he said.
“Andre was out straight away – it was just natural instinct, trying to break up the fight,” he said.
“He knew he needed something to help out in the situation.”
He could not find the hurley, so Mr Mág Tighearnán also got out before going to intervene.
“My instinct was run straight across. There’s a man lying on the road, there’s blood everywhere,” he said.
“It’s a natural reaction for me and most people I know would do the same from where we grew up,” he said.
