The final battle approaches.
Entertainment Weekly has your exclusive first look at the highly-anticipated Outlander series finale ahead of its premiere on Friday, and it’s clear that Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and the men of Fraser’s Ridge are not going down without a fight.
The clip sees Jamie light a fiery cross — a Scottish Highland tradition depicted in both Outlander and its spinoff Outlander: Blood of My Blood — as he rallies the troops ahead of the infamous foretold Battle at King’s Mountain. Fans of the series will also be able to spot some familiar faces in the crowd, including Young Ian (John Bell) and Buck (Diarmaid Murtagh) among others.

“Je suis prest,” Jamie says, which translates to “I’m ready.” It is also the Fraser clan motto.
Inspired, the men swear their loyalty by placing their hands over their hearts. Jamie then raises his longsword up in the air as the men cheer and throw their fists up.
The Battle at King’s Mountain has been looming over Jamie’s head since the beginning of season 8, when it was revealed through Frank Randall’s (Tobias Menzies) unearthed research that he may die in the fight. While others like Bree (Sophie Skelton) have tried to convince Jamie to sit this fight out, he remains determined to defend his home and loved ones at any cost.
As for how it all ends? Well, it’s hard to say how things will shake out. Executive producer Matthew B. Roberts previously told Entertainment Weekly that he wrote and shot multiple endings for the series as a way to not only prevent spoilers, but also to give them options in the final edit.
“There’s a small handful of people that have seen it all the way through,” Roberts said at the time. “I think keeping it close to the vest and a surprise to a lot of people made it a little more special.”
The plan also required him to pen a series of endings that were different, yet still felt authentic to the series. “They all could have been the ending, and that’s why people believed them,” he added.

One thing we know for sure, though? It’ll be a plenty emotional sendoff. Caitríona Balfe, who plays Jamie’s time-traveling partner Claire, recently told Elle that she “couldn’t keep it together” when they filmed their final scene.
“The last scene that Sam and I filmed together in Jamie and Claire’s bedroom was a seven-page dialogue scene, and the stuff that we were saying to each other as we were saying it had all of these double meanings for our lives and the whole experience, saying goodbye to Claire and the whole thing,” she said.
“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, because I couldn’t keep it together,” she continued. “I was so emotional. It hit me like a train — what a massive journey it had been, and the enormity of saying goodbye.”
The series finale of Outlander airs May 15 on Starz. Watch EW’s exclusive clip above.
