Rob Reiner and Wife Michele’s Medical Records Sealed Under Court Order Amid Homicide Investigation
Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s medical records are currently sealed under a court order as a result of the ongoing homicide investigation into their deaths.
The medical examiner’s office released a statement explaining that the Los Angeles Police Department initiated the security hold so that no further information, including the medical examiner’s report, can be released or posted “until further notice.”
“The Department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted,” the statement reads.
Despite these records and certain details being unavailable, the medical examiner’s office previously released the couple’s official cause of death. The director, 78, and his wife, 70, died of multiple sharp force injuries involving a knife.
Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested shortly after the discovery of their bodies and is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.
He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is reportedly being kept in solitary confinement. The charges against Nick carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted.
According to the BBC, Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, told reporters on December 17, “We ask that during this process, you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward. Not with a rush to judgement, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity, and with the respect that this system and this process deserves, and that the family deserves.”
