The horrific murder case involving Igor Komarov, the son of an influential Ukrainian businessman, is shocking international public opinion. The latest developments from investigators reveal a meticulously planned scheme, beginning with a social media blunder and culminating in a gruesome dismemberment on the tourist island of Bali, Indonesia.
Location revealed from Valentine’s Day post
It all started on February 14, 2026, when Igor Komarov (28 years old) was enjoying a vacation in Bali with his girlfriend, Eva Mishalova, a popular blogger with nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram . On Valentine’s Day, Mishalova posted a photo with a congratulatory caption.
Investigators believe that this post inadvertently revealed the couple’s exact location, giving the kidnappers an opportunity to track them and plan the attack.
The victim was on vacation with his girlfriend, who is a KOL (Key Opinion Leader).
Military-style kidnapping plan, February 15th
Just one day later, on February 15th, the abduction took place in the coastal area of Jimbaran. While traveling on his electric scooter , Komarov was suddenly stopped by a group of people.
According to the New York Post , the attack was carried out like a professional military operation involving a convoy of cars and motorcycles. The perpetrators quickly subdued Komarov and took him away from the scene, much to the astonishment of witnesses. CCTV footage later captured the movement of a suspicious car and two motorcycles continuously moving between the Tabanan and Badung districts.
After being abducted, Komarov was reportedly taken to a villa in the Tabanan district. There, crucial forensic evidence was found. Police discovered numerous bloodstains inside the villa and on a Toyota Avanza – the vehicle believed to have been used to transport the victim.
Test results showed that these blood samples perfectly matched the DNA of the victim’s mother, reinforcing the hypothesis that Komarov was held captive and abused here before being murdered.
The discovery of the body and DNA test results on February 26th.
It wasn’t until February 26th that the first body parts were found by local residents near Ketewel Beach in Sukawati District. After expanding the search along the coast and estuary, police recovered complete dismembered body parts, including the head, torso, arms, and legs.
Due to the severe decomposition and disfigurement of the body, initial identification was impossible. However, DNA analysis from the National Police Forensic Center in Jakarta confirmed that the body parts accurately belonged to Igor Komarov.
The case is attracting a lot of attention.
Authorities crack down on transnational criminal gangs.
Indonesian police have arrested a suspect in West Nusa Tenggara. The suspect confessed that he was hired to use a fake passport to rent the vehicle used in the crime for 6 million Rupiah (approximately 8.9 million VND) and was unaware of the murder plot.
The investigation is ongoing with the support of Interpol . Six other foreigners have been placed on the international wanted list with a “red notice”. According to the latest information, four of the suspects have left Bali, while two are believed to still be at large within Indonesian territory.
This case was shocking not only because of its brutality but also because of the victim’s identity. Igor Komarov was the son of Alexander Petrovsky, a powerful businessman in Dnipro (Ukraine), who was believed to have extensive political connections and complex links with underground organizations.
