A Christmas Party in Hollywood Ended in Horror — One Shocking Sentence Changed Everything

Nick Reiner has officially been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of his father, Rob Reiner, and mother, Michele.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced the charges filed on Tuesday, including two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders, as well as “fessing a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife.”

The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty. Hochman said no decision has been made on the death penalty as of now.

Nick Reiner will be brought to court for an arraignment after he is medically cleared, where he would then enter a plea of “guilty” or “not guilty.”

His defense attorney, Alan Jackson, said Tuesday that his client will likely miss his first court appearance because he still needs medical clearance following his arrest on suspicion of murdering his parents, according to CNN.

Hochman told the media on Tuesday that every individual being booked into the Los Angeles court system goes through the medical clearance process.

Prosecuting these cases involving family members are some of the most challenging and most heart-wrenching cases that this office faces because of the intimate and often brutal nature of the crimes involved,” Hochman said.
The son of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, was arrested on Sunday and is being held on no bail. Police Chief Jim McDonnell said during a Monday news conference that the son was arrested and “booked for murder.” Prosecutors put together a charging document based on evidence provided by police.

Hochman said Tuesday that any information not coming from the District Attorney’s Office, LAPD, the coroner’s office or the courtroom, there’s a good chance it is misinformation. He asked that people have patience as the evidence and facts of the case will be revealed in time.

The couple was found dead in their Los Angeles home, located in the Brentwood neighborhood.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical aid, and the LAPD arrived around 10 minutes after to begin an investigation.

Their loss is beyond tragic and we will commit ourselves to bringing their murderer to justice,” Hochman said.
It was previously reported that Rob and Nick got into a ‘very loud argument’ at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday night, hours before the director and his wife were found in an apparent stabbing.

The fight, first reported by TMZ, was apparently loud enough for many others to hear and resulted in Rob and his wife, Michele, leaving the party.

One source told People that “Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous.”

In the semi-autobiographical 2016 film “Being Charlie,” Rob and Nick explored their difficult relationship and Nick’s struggles with drugs.

Rob, the son of comedian and director Carl Reiner, made a name for himself with his breakout role as “Meathead” on “All in the Family,” earning two Emmy Awards.

He directed the coming-of-age classic “Stand By Me,” the romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally,” the fantasy favorite “The Princess Bride,” the psychological horror “Misery,” and the courtroom drama “A Few Good Men,” to name just a few from his prolific career.

Rob and Michele met while filming “When Harry Met Sally” and later married in 1989. The couple shared three children, Jake, Nick, and Romy.
