Nancy Guthrie’s Neighbors Had Internet Outage When She Went Missing, FBI Investigating: Report
Federal investigators are reportedly exploring whether a potential neighborhood internet outage played a role in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.
The disruption may have prevented nearby home security cameras from recording on the night the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie vanished, fueling concerns the abduction was executed with deliberate and technical planning.
One neighbor said his Ring camera history is mysteriously “not available” around the time that Guthrie was believed to have gone missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, according to a NewsNation report published on Friday, March 6. Other locals confirmed that FBI agents had asked them about a similar internet service disruption on February 1.
There are questions about whether the device seen in the suspect’s pocket on the night of Nancy’s disappearance was a signal jammer.
“This is the distance from where the ring cameras that went offline are located in relation to Nancy Guthrie’s house. It is open desert in between. You can see the roof of Nancy’s house when I zoom in,” NewsNation Senior National Correspondent Brian Entin reported via X on March 6, showing the close proximity.
Nancy’s Nest doorbell camera captured a masked person, who the FBI has described as a man who is 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 tall and of average build, on that very evening. He was also seen carrying a black, 25-liter backpack from Ozark Trail, a brand exclusive to Walmart.
Authorities have put together a timeline as they follow various leads in hopes of reuniting Nancy with her loved ones.
Us Weekly has reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and FBI for comment.
Nancy was last seen on January 31 after going out for a family dinner via an Uber around 5:32 p.m. local time. She was later dropped off by family at her home at 9:48 p.m. Police were able to confirm the garage door closed at 9:50 p.m.
Hours later, at 1:57 a.m., Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected. At 2:12 a.m., software detected something on camera but footage was not available. (It’s unclear if that movement was from an animal or person.) Nancy’s pacemaker app showed it was disconnected from her phone just before 2:30 a.m.
It’s now been more than a month since Nancy went missing and law enforcement’s approach has likely shifted from a frantic “race against the clock” to what security expert Dan Donovan describes as a “controlled operation,” he exclusively told Us.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently spoke with NBC’s Liz Kreutz and said that officers are “definitely closer” to finding “a suspect or suspects” during an interview on the Today show, which aired Tuesday, March 3.

“We’ve got a lot of intel, a lot of leads, but now it’s time to just go to work,” he added.
It appears that some residents’ security equipment was still working on the night in question as one doorbell video — obtained by Fox News — captured a car speeding down the road 2.5 miles from Nancy’s home around the time of her abduction.
“We’re aware of it and we’re looking into it, just like any other piece of evidence,” Nanos said.
Nancy Guthrie neighbors asked about internet glitches on night she went missing, report says
Nancy Guthrie’s neighbors are reportedly being asked about internet glitches around the time the 84-year-old woman went missing.
It’s not clear if investigators in Arizona believe there’s a link to possible technological issues in Tucson and Guthrie’s Feb. 1 disappearance.
Three of Guthrie’s neighbors were quizzed about their web connections by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, according to NBCs “TODAY,” where the missing woman’s daughter Savannah Guthrie is a host.
Investigators reportedly told locals that some neighbors reported internet issues the night before the apparent abduction. Those quizzed Thursday by authorities going door to door said they would’ve been either asleep or not home at the time such glitches might have occurred.
An NBC News reported asked Pima County’s sheriff if the suspect in Guthrie’s disappearance may have had with him a WiFi jammer. They were told that investigators were looking at “every angle” of a brief surveillance video recovered from the missing woman’s damaged doorbell camera. Little evidence has been shared with the public aside from that clip showing an armed man approaching the home wearing masks and gloves.
Savannah Guthrie has been on leave throughout the investigation, but visited NBC’s studios Thursday to tell colleagues she expects to return to the morning program at some point.
She and her siblings are offering a $1 million reward to see their mother again. The 54-year-old TV personality conceded in a video posted to social media on Feb. 14 “she may already be gone.”
Nancy Guthrie Case Erupts as Detectives Launch New Probe Into Mysterious Internet Glitch on Night of Missing Mom’s Disappearance
Investigators hoping to bring Today star Savannah Guthrie‘s missing mom home are looking into every possible lead, including whether an internet glitch could somehow be linked to her disappearance.
NBC’s Liz Kreutz reported on Friday, March 6, that detectives returned to Nancy Guthrie‘s Tucson, Ariz., neighborhood on Thursday, March 5, to canvas the area again and inquire about “any issues or disruptions with their internet service the night” she vanished.
Liz revealed she spoke to “three different homeowners,” who disclosed investigators had explained “that several people in the area mentioned glitches with their internet” that evening.

Nancy, 84, was reported missing on February 1, with her last known sighting being around 9:30 p.m. the day before. Authorities suspect is the victim of a “targeted kidnapping.”
Liz added that she asked Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos during an interview on Monday, March 2, if the masked suspect seen on Nancy’s front porch could have “had a Wi-Fi jammer on him.”
“All he would say is that his investigators, along with the FBI, are looking at every angle of that surveillance video,” she said, before admitting the neighbors she talked to shared they were “either asleep or not home” that night so couldn’t speak to any internet issues.
Nancy Guthrie May Have Been Stalked

The aforementioned security footage was released by the FBI on February 10, and showed a mysterious figure appearing to tamper with Nancy’s Nest doorbell camera around the time she went missing.
Some have speculated that the person or persons responsible for taking Nancy may have been surveilling the upscale desert home prior to that night.
One law enforcement expert theorized the alleged abductor might have had an “obsession” with the retiree’s famous daughter and chose to target Nancy after seeing her appearances on Today.
Nancy Guthrie’s Family Is Offering $1 Million Reward for Her ‘Recovery’
A $1 million reward for Nancy Guthrie’s return has been offered by the family.mega
Meanwhile, a former FBI agent posited on Monday that it’s possible the crime was deeply “personal,” as a hefty $1 million reward for her “recovery” remains on the table.
“If they don’t react to this $1 million reward with virtually no strings attached,” Jim Fitzgerald said on Megyn Kelly‘s show, “That would lean me toward the fact this is a highly personal crime done for highly personal reasons and money was never a factor.”
Savannah Guthrie Is No Longer in Tucson

Savannah, 54, returned to New York City on Thursday following a month-long stay in Tucson, and was embraced by her colleagues at NBC Studios.
