Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie’s neighbor spotted a key detail in aerial footage that prompted police to search the 84-year-old’s roof—where they found new evidence, a camera, as Nancy remains missing.
On Friday, Feb. 6, police reportedly seized a vehicle from Nancy’s Tucson, Ariz., property, Fox News reported, as well as a camera from the roof, per the New York Post.
Nancy’s neighbor, Laura Gargano, told CNN that she notified police to check to see if Savannah’s mom had her roof recoated, as it could lead to tips. Gargano said she noticed how clean Nancy’s roof looked in aerial footage of the home.
“You see in that image, you see how white her roof is,” the neighbor told CNN. “The previous three weeks we had a lot of rain, so it would be normal for a roof to a be little dirty after it rains.”
Because Garno’s roof is flat, like Nancy’s, it easily gets dirty. So the pristine condition of Nancy’s roof seemed off. “That’s just one thing to check,” she said.
On Feb. 1, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (CSPD) launched a search for Nancy, describing her as a “vulnerable adult.” Savannah’s mother was last seen on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 31, at her home. The PCSD ultimately declared her Tucson residence a crime scene and determined that she had been “taken” from her residence “against her will.”
Law enforcement confirmed that the blood discovered at Nancy’s home belonged to the 84-year-old. Investigators have since returned to to Savannah’s mom’s home several times, including with K9 units. As of writing, Nancy had not been found after looking into multiple ransom notes and issuing video messages to the captors through Savannah and her siblings.
